By fostering a trusting and safe therapeutic partnership, counsellors support and guide clients toward their goals through the skilled use and implementation of a variety of therapeutic techniques including (but not limited to) the application of psychological theories, principles, and interventions. I utilize person-centred therapeutic approaches for generalized counselling, and find benefit from the following approaches:
I view rehabilitation and injury counselling from a disability adjustment lens. Specifically, staged and identity centrality models and focus on acknowledging and grieving functional losses. Psychoeducation for re-learning life skills, growing stress and fatigue awareness, and past and future-focused coping techniques are utilized.

Now offering rehabilitation and injury counselling through Vantage Point Wellness
When unexpected events happen, it can feel overwhelming. You may feel paralyzed by anxiety and worry about your future. You may have a hard time talking with your friends and family because they don't understand your pain. You may be asking yourself, "Who am I now?" If these negative thoughts and feelings start to impact your day-to-day functioning or stop you from enjoying life again, Rehabilitation Counselling might be helpful.
Everyone takes a different path to adapting to change, adjusting to limitations, and learning how to move through life after an injury. Rehabilitation counselling can help with:
Trying to cope with major life altering events can make you feel helpless. I'm not convinced that "accepting" our limitations after an injury or diagnosis is necessary, but I do believe that making room for adjustments can help give you back control of what you do next.
A brief review on the challenges of RTW after a mental health related absence. Presented at Opening the Door to Mental Health Symposium 2023!
After an injury, there is an adjustment process we must go through. My aim is to create a safe space for you to work through the complex feelings that come up for you. There's no right or wrong way to face the reality of not being able to fulfill your previous life-role.
When faced with unexpected change, we often lose our sense of who we are. Adjustment begins with acknowledging that loss. Restructuring identity is not an easy task, and regaining a confident sense of self is critical to finding hope through our suffering.
Focusing on "who I was" can cause us to get "stuck" in our recovery. Holding onto hope that things will "get back to normal" despite ongoing pain and limitations creates a negative loop that is hard to escape. Having support to work through the roadblocks helps us move forward.
When our identity was strongly tied to a successful career that gave us a sense of purpose and meaning in life, having to "restart" a new career can cause feelings of anxiety, worry, and self-doubt. Feeling a sense of injustice is common and we become resistant and angry. Working through these emotions as they come up is extremely important.
Making new goals means facing new challenges. Navigating a world where having a disability or limitations is looked down upon will be a new experience. Changing the narrative and learning assertive communication skills can ease our frustrations.
Starting a new job can be exciting, but it also can increase our stress and exacerbate our symptoms. Setting up a strong support network and making a solid plan for this transition period allows us to focus on ourselves.
